The glorious, free-spirited, poingnant and thought provoking days of the 60's are all perfectly brought back to life in this heart-warming musical known as "Hairspray." As a teenager growing up in the 60's, I witnessed societal changes in the air coming to life. Intergration, segregation, outsiders trying to fit in with the social norm, individualism, and so many other taboos were breaking down walls, and "Hairspray" retells it all accurately with musical charm and wit on the "Big Screen" As a movie "Hairspray" is a high-energy, foot-tapping, heart-pounding experience that only a cadaver wouldn't enjoy. How does Tracy Turnblad (a fat outsider) fit into the perfectly acceptable local television dance show with the Nicest Kids in Town and win the heart of the hottie of the show, Link Larkin? What has intergration/segregation have to do with Tracy's rise to social fame? It was at this point in the movie that I started to cry as I recalled the horrors and triumphs of those days. Why would anyone want to prevent Tracy from being herself? Watch as Michelle Pfeiffer (still an amazing hottie) delivers the answer along with her daughter. And the most thought provoking question that I can put forth is: Have we, as a society, learned anything at all since the 60's? Watch the movie "Hairspray" and then take a good long look into the 21st century and I believe the answer will become readily apparent. "Hairspray" has won my heart, my admiration and my thanks. My thanks for reminding me of the good old days, and my thanks for reminding me that we've "Come So Far (Got So Far To Go)." I will be ordering two DVD's from here and giving one of them to my friend Crissy who will be having a 60's party with me so that we can watch the movie all over again. In closing, let me say: "Good Morning Baltimore" and to "The Nicest Kids in Town." "It Takes Two" and many more to deal with "Miss Baltimore Crabs," still "I Can Hear The Bells" loudly proclaiming during the "Ladies' Choice" that "The New Girl In Town" has arrived with a thunderclap that says "Welcome To The 60's". Go, "Run And Tell That" "Big Blonde And Beautiful" is in, and as a result "You're Timeless To Me." As a child of the 60's "I Know Where I've Been," and "Without Love" your soul becomes stickier than "Hairspray." And because I say to society that "You Can't Stop The Beat", we've all "Come So Far (Got So Far To Go). You've got "Cooties" if you feel I'm wrong, and though Tracy would say "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now," we'll all be "bigger" if we walk away from "Hairspray" and learned a very important, moral lesson. A most enjoyable, five-star ride! Thank You for "Hairspray." Doc!!!

Well written, well acted and well directed. The whole enchilada. A moving story that made me smile and made me cry. The characters were well defined and the acting superb. A wonder it was not heard of at the award shows. The life of Miss Beatrice Potter shows a woman of courage and determination. Willing to step outside of the boundries of her times.

A truely crazy classic...Lilly von Stupp, le Petomaine, all mad, bad and wonderful. Worth the purchase alone for the Busby Berkley takeoff at the end...screamingly funny from beginning to end, but not for the kids.

Unique story. Love Dabney Coleman and Lilly Tomlin. The other characters were also cute. It's funny and keeps your interest. It's especially a movie that shows women triumphing over sexism. Well done.
