  • Monsieur Vincent Amazing

I just watch this film at it was riveting! The subtitles are a nuisance, and I speak enough French to know they didn't always translate the dialogue well, yet the acting and the story are not to be missed. We so take for granted that charitable ventures are natural to the human heart, but Vincent de Paul was the inventor of it all. An absolute giant of man in the humblest of guises. He did not believe that poverty was a fate that could not be overcome. To see the 17th century attitudes exposed it could be said that the French Revolution not only overturned the fate of the poor, it changed the world forever to make it a more egalitarian place. Without Vincent de Paul, that might never have happened. He had the heart of Christ, and never felt he had done enough. Everyone should see this film. It was orginally filmed in 1948 in black and white, but the artistry, the direction by Claude Monet, and the reality of the scenes seem to place us back into the time it was happening. It is life-changing.
