This movie, which was made using mostly Greek actors during a period of poor Turkish-Greek relations, was banned from the Cannes Film Festival in the year of its release, due to its racist depiction of the Turkish people. The director, Alan Parker, who went on to make such movies as Chariots of Fire and Mississippi Burning, has repeatedly expressed regret for the choices he made in bringing to the screen this early film. Instead of buying this bigoted debacle, try the films Crossing the Bridge, Steam, or Distant for a more realistic depiction of Turkey and its people!
