Rebooting a 40-year franchise is no easy task. Yet LOST mastermind JJ Abrams has taken STAR TREK under his wing to update the futuristic space saga as a prequel, pitting younger incarnations of iconic characters like Kirk and Spock against an alien menace, before the launch of the original 1960s television series. Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (LOST, RATATOUILLE, CLOVERFIELD) was tapped to provide a fresh, energetic score to the new film. Taking a cue from David Arnold and the James Bond prequel CASINO ROYALE, Giacchino`s music is completely new and only brings the classic theme music into the score during the closing credits. STAR TREK is a hallowed franchise, with the likes of James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, and Alexander Courage setting the past musical backdrops. This is a tall order for Giacchino, but his vibrant incidental themes weave into the canon seamlessly.
