How to Fluff Comforters
You know it's time to cover the beds with cozy comforters when there's a chill in the air and cold weather sets in. Whether you are shopping for a baby boy gift to take to a baby shower or a gift that will be perfect for his first birthday, we can help you select the best baby gift with our tips. Activity. Play mats such as gym mats and tummy time mats are great gifts for baby boys. Play mats help babies develop motor skills, strengthen their muscles and they can also entertain little one's while parents take a break. Active baby boys love kicking and playing with gym mat toys and tummy time mats will entertain any baby while he is developing strong muscle coordination. In addition to play mats, music CDs, educational DVDs and baby books are great activity-based gift options. Age-appropriate toys such as trains, cars, stuffed toys and balls never go out of fashion and give babies opportunities to develop their motor skills. A play yard also makes a great baby boy gift. Play yards offer a safe place for babies to explore their environment. Nursery. You can help dress a baby boy's nursery with decor gifts. Crib bedding, hampers, crib toys, musical mobiles, window treatments, stuffed toys, rugs and other accessories will add to a baby boy's nursery. Check with parents to find out their planned nursery theme before buying or choose neutral decor items. Large nursery items such as baby swings, rockers, bouncy seats and walkers are great gifts and will be very useful for the parents. Meal time. Babies need so many accessories to get them through the day. Feeding accessories make very useful baby boy gifts. Cheerful dish sets and baby bibs with witty lines are gifts that make meal times memorable for a baby boy and his parents. If you have a generous budget, consider larger items such as high chairs, baby booster seats and travel seats. Clothes and accessories. A baby can never have too many outfits. Consider the time of year and local climate and choose clothes and accessories that fit the seasons. Undershirts, pajamas, sleepers, shorts, T-shirts, pants and pairs of jeans are safe bets for baby boys. Hats, jackets, socks, shoes and mittens make useful gifts as well. Best Bookshelf Materials
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy.
