Besides Julia Child, this is the best baking cookbook ever. I have tried several recipes. The biscotti are easier than I ever thought and everyone is so impressed. The lemon cake recipe I think has more than 22 eggs and 1 1/2 pounds of butter between the cake, the filling and the frosting and is the most delicious cake ever. People are very impressed with this one.
If you're new or not so new to baking, you must read this book, yes read. It's like the title "handbook!" It's extremely informative and useful for people not so good with baking (like me!). Martha gives you techniques of various baking methods. There's pictures, easy and complex recipes. She guides you through each method with her own flair. A must have in any cookbook collection! Thanks overstock for such a great price too!
This book is useful for first time bakers. It introduces many techniques for successful baking. However, some recipes are lacking. The cake recipes do not call for any rising agents, so they come out dense and flat. I would recommend it for practicing many different types of sweets. Otherwise stick with well reviewed recipes from the internet.
