This sterling adaptation of Austen's third published novel, set in early 19th century Portsmouth, England, concerns Fanny Price (O'Connor), an intelligent young woman who is sent to live with her mother's wealthy family. Settling into her new life, Fanny is treated poorly by everyone except her cousin Edmund (Miller). The pair connect immediately, and pretty soon deeper feelings emerge. The arrival of a conniving brother and sister duo cause a commotion, forcing Fanny to decide if she should succumb to her material surroundings, or remain true to her heart.

I LOVE this movie, it's perfect in almost every way. Fanny frustrates you, but then you get over it. I'm really impressed with the flow of this movie. in my humble opinon I believe it does the book justice.

I've never read Mansfield Park, so I can't say much about how faithful it is to the film. (I have read that it's somewhat unlike the story and includes facts of Austen's own life as filler, but I don't really know.) I have to say, though, that I love the cinematography. It makes up for some of the films shortcomings, to me. I had to give "suitability for all ages" only 1 star, because the film has nudity and r@pe (I don't believe this term is inappropriate in the context of a warning!) in the form of drawings by one of the characters. Other than that, the film is pretty good. It's enjoyable and Frances O'conner is likable as Fanny Price. I would just suggest you avert your eyes when Fanny picks up the eldest's brother's notebook, if you know what's good for you! (I'm only half-kidding.)
