pretty good stuff, a couple things, though. unlike american serials the threads of the stories dont interconnect directly from episode to episode. that is, although there are events in luther's life that follow him from episode to episode, each week there is a different crime story/murder he has to solve. so there is less time and energy, really, devoted to the characters and the character development from week to week because a new story basically consumes most of the narrative energy. not a major, just different, more serially defined than you might be used to normally. and the second things is there are a limited number of episodes, i think it was as few as eight. so that just as you really start to get into it, the season is over. i think season two is even less. so, ultimately, and pound for pound, probably not the BEST value, if quantitative value can even enter into the equation. just wish there was more. which brings us to idris, the MAN in this series. expertly played and directed, strong supporting cast, necessarily tight scripting, the series really has it all. revolving around idris, wound tight and pointed at the bad guy, all the while trying to keep his personal life at an appropriate resolve, blinded to the emotional freight train otherwise headed straight for him. good and gritty, an excellent diversion, two thumbs, enthusiastically up....
Loved the show, wanted to see it for a long time so happy i could buy it at such a great price. Thanks for providing it.

"Luther" is one of the finest police mini-series I've seen in a long time. Based outside of London, Elba plays Deputy Chief Inspector John Luther, who is haunted by demons in his personal life (such as his divorce and his professional life with alleged police brutality) yet, through it all, he is one of the best investigators in London's Metropolitan Police Service. His state of mind and unorthodox approach toward solving cases continually brings him at odds with Internal Affairs and his top brass. Yet, he gets the job done solving some of the most complex cases that otherwise would not be solved without him. "Luther" in its rivoting style and intensity puts it in league with many top American police dramas and is a cross between "24" and "the Shield". If you love police dramas with a lot of edge to them, it is must-see TV!
