As this sentimental but deeply sincere fiction debut opens, Cornelia, a 31-year-old cafi manager, is waiting for her life to change. At first, she thinks she`s found all her answers in Martin, who seems to have stepped off the screen from one of her favorite romantic classic films into the cafi. Meanwhile, Clare, a sensitive, precocious 11-year-old who barely sees her father since the divorce, watches in sadness and desperation as mental illness slowly creeps over her beautiful, vivid mother. When Cornelia and Clare finally meet, Cornelia realizes that it wasn`t Martin she was waiting for.

I'm not sure what all the hype is about this book. The first 100 pages are super dull. Maybe if you're really old you will understand the movie references... otherwise they're just annoying. The middle of the story is interesting. Corny ending. I'd buy something else if I were you. The weird part (to me atleast) was that the childs story seemed really engaging and readable, but when the author switches to the adults viewpoint she just looses her skill. Disappointing.
I liked this book so much, I bought her other book also available through Overstock. Waiting for her third book. Once you get used to the fact that each chapter is narrated by and is about one of the main characters, you get used to the change in perspective. For the romantic at heart, this is a good read.
