This was virtually the only recorded meeting of the greatest jazz performer and its greatest composer. Orignally recorded for Roulette by the late Bob Thiele, the sides oriinally comprised a double CD. Michael Cuscuna, best known for producing all those great Mosaic reissues, located the original tapes and found a great deal of interesting alternate takes, false starts etc. It confirms what I've always suspected- Armstrong was a genius. He tackles a number of Ellington favorites and one unknown but beautiful number- Azalea- for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. A great value and some sides that definitely shouldn't be overlooked.
