If you plan on being in Istanbul for only a couple of days and want to see only the best and not fall into tourist traps, then use this book. It has great insight on the most popular Istanbul sights and events, such as tips on buying a rug, what tea is only for tourists, where to find the best restaurants, etc. Compared to the Lonely Planet Istanbul Guide book, this book has more specific information for those who will spend a couple days there. I highly recommend getting both though, since one will give you deeper insight. Also, "Encounter" has great sections where they have interviewed a native about their view of the city focused on their specialty. For example, tips from a rug seller for those who want to go shopping, tips from a local artist for those who are there for the art, from a tour guide for those sightseeing, etc.
