LITTLE BIG MAN was significant when it was made because of its editing, which was still being explored in Hollywood at the time as a vehicle for innovative, simple storytelling. Arthur Penn's film of Thomas Berger's bestselling novel demystifies the Old West with its funny, chaotic portrayal of one man's experiences in its closing days. Jack Crabb (Dustin Hoffman), a 121-year-old Indian living in a rest home, relates his incredible life experiences. According to Crabb's somewhat fanciful tales, he was raised by the Cheyenne from the age of 10 only to be seized by whites when he was 15. He then embarks on a string of failed attempts to find a place for himself in the world. These bring him into contact with (among many others) Wild Bill Hickok, the US Cavalry, a former preacher's wife-turned-prostitute, his own spunky frontierswoman sister, and General George Armstrong Custer during the Battle of Little Big Horn. The result is a funny, spiritual film with a humane view of the plight of Native Americans.

    • Great Classic

I saw this move in the theatre when it first came out and loved it. Seeing it again 40 years later, I still LOVED it. Dustin Hoffman gave a wonderful performance and you know why today he is still a great actor. The movie can be a bit graphic at times, but nothing compared to the movies of today. This film will make you laugh out loud but will also make you cry. Bravo to Dustin and the entire cast.

    • Excellent Movie

I've always loved this movie since I saw it when I was a young girl. This was the "Forrest Gump" of the 1970's!! It is rarely played on cable these days, so I was glad to be able to get it here. I love Dustin Hoffman and this is one great tale.

It is a classic!! Thank you for the opportunity to watch Dustin Hoffman, in "Little Big Man" any time. I had been looking for a DVD for a time in order to share the movie with my children and friends that were not familiar with it. Great movie. Great service that got the package in my hands in quickly. I have found it fun, entertaining, and appropriate for my 4-year old grandson, my grown children and their families, and my husband.

Outstanding western for entertainment value. Not sure how much emphasis was placed on facts, but an nevertheless, great entertainment. Dustin Hoffman at his best and Ms Pendrake (Faye Dunnaway) was outstanding.
