I taught myself to garden over the years and I can plant and grow but never learned proper pruning techniques or when to prune. This year I spent the entire summer building a huge garden and thought it was time to invest in some proper maintenance. This book is perfect for a beginner. There are illustrations and a written text to help you know exactly what to do. There are 4 different types of clematis and I never knew which to prune when. This book lists all clematis by name in whatever pruning group they belong to. Same for hydrangeas. No more guessing. I have a small raspberry patch that desperately needs pruning but I didnt want to sacrifice any of next years berries to a bad pruning. Now I understand how they grow, when they fruit (at different levels of the branch twice a year) and how to prune them. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to keep their garden looking nice and guarantee a healthy garden and abundent flowers.
