Recorded at Ultrasonic Studios, New Orleans, Louisiana. The title of The Best of Zydeco makes it sound like a greatest-hits collection, but the record is actully Jude Taylor`s debut effort. The accordionist has assembled a great band -- including his sons Curly (drums) and Errol (rubboard) -- and leads them through rollicking zydeco and steamy slow blues. Occasionally, he flirts with soul and blues, such as on a cover of Clarence Carter`s "Strokin`," but Taylor is at his best when he sticks to classic zydeco sounds. The inclusion of these storming, party-oriented tracks is how The Best of Zydeco nearly lives up to its name. ~ Thom Owens
