  I purchased this translation of the Bible for myself as a personal study Bible, as I had heard that it was translated by a messianic Jewish believer with understanding of Jewish tradtion and from original Hebrew and Aramic text. I use it as a parallel study Bible, and really enjoy the fresh insight.

That is no criticism – far from it. The scholarship, elegance and practicality of the Siddur needed to be continued in an edition of the festival liturgy, and the task has been performed with great success. I understand that a companion volume for Yom Kippur is under way and will appear in twelve months’ time, presumably to wide acclaim. British Jewry’s only precedent is the Routledge Machzor, published just over a century ago, which long held sway in the synagogue without any real competition, at least until the arrival of ArtScroll. English-speaking Jewry never had much interest in spirituality or theology, despite the Jacobs controversy of nearly fifty years ago, but it did take its liturgical works seriously, and...

  Checking out materials for an adult B'nai Mitzvah class. I think that it is a very fine resource to introduce the complex world of commentary to maotivated adult students. Is there a follow-up volume with examples of Talmudic materials to study with a class?
