Jordan and Palladino make for a serious rhythm section, and Mayer shines on his numerous guitar solos, which are alternately sweet and soulful and technically dazzling. The set mixes`s Mayer originals with covers (a faithful version of Jimi Hendrix`s "Wait Until Tomorrow" is a particular highlight), and while the music`s sound is ultimately raw and bluesy, there is still plenty of Mayer`s bankable pop smarts behind the project, making it as accessible as it is urgent.
