This collection represents the essential items of the Jimi Hendrix catalog. Each selection illustrates Hendrix`s uniqueness as both guitarist and composer. In the `60s, he virtually defined rock guitar, remaking history in his own image. His mix of blues, psychedelia and Dylanesque folk-rock made him a rock & roll icon.
It`s in the surreal balladry of "The Wind Cries Mary." It`s in the archetypal hard-rock cadences of "Purple Haze." It`s in everything this electric guitar prodigy laid his talented hands on. Those unfamiliar with Hendrix`s legacy are fortunate to have EXPERIENCE HENDRIX as a guide.

Missing Woodstock version of National Anthem

dianneja from Mount Holly, NJ, Dec 29, 2007

I didn't have any Hendrix on CD and was really looking forward to receiving this. Unfortunately, my favorite piece by Hendrix is the Woodstock version of the National Anthem that leads into an achingly beautiful guitar solo. Alas, that isn't here (I either didn't know or remember there was more than one version.) Everything else is great and this is the "official" Hendrix family version: I was glad to see his family getting some money (he was negligent about such matters). It also contains liner notes that give information/his impressions about each particular cut. I especially appreciated having this historical information, but I would have liked more, e.g., his stint with Little Richard. I haven't read any bios on Hendrix because his death and the history leading up to it make me focus on what we lost rather than what he left behind. I was glad this only made reference to his demise. More bio info would have shown how much he managed to do in his short life.

    Awesome Jimi

RollTideRoll from Ripley, TN, Sep 3, 2007

I never thought I could appreciate the old Rock and Roll. Listening to Jimi brought back memories and laughs amongst my friends. Remembering where we were and what we were doing when we heard the album for the first time. He still rocks out.
