Several of these tracks are taken from albums by Jerry Jeff Walker`s entertaining, if uneven, psychedelic folk rock band Circus Maximus. However, since the band`s best song--the early underground radio favorite "The Wind"--was written by somebody else, it`s not included here.
Most of the rest comes from a contractual obligation album Walker recorded in Nashville before he split for Atlantic subsidiary Atco. It`s an early example of country rock with Dylanesque overtones. The standout track, however, is the original demo of Walker`s best known song, "Mr. Bojangles." It`s spare, beautiful, and superior in every way to the more famous official studio version.
