But the surfing icons` endless summer was rapidly drawing to a close--the release of their contemporaries the Beach Boys` classic, innovative PET SOUNDS album and Jan Berry`s near-fatal car accident meant the duo`s hits with jokey surfer anthems like "One Piece Topless Bathing Suit" would soon go the way of Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon beach movies.
