  • Birth of World Music

Yusef was truly in his element upon recording this gem. A master of reminding music fans that Jazz could assimilate with other genres of music and still maintain its identity. He educated us all that Jazz did not have to be associated with the usual instrumentations (trumpet, saxophone etc.) The very first track tells the story of Jazz' first foray into World Music before anyone even thought of World Music. The musicianship of Yusef on non traditional instruments is absolutely stunning. He totally draws you in and does not let go until the last note is played. His traditional instrument playing is also a treat . Yusef's big sound on tenor saxophone is a joy to experience. If you want to travel to distant lands without an airline ticket - well, This is the Ticket!!!
