wedding gift
from twin cities, minnesota,  Jul 27, 2009

I give a nice cookbook for a wedding gift, being that I gave the sister of the groom Ina Garten's Barefoot Contessa when she was married two years ago, I had to think of a different book, this is a great book for beginners or experienced cooks of all kinds, very informative and great recipes to use.

LOVE this book!
from Nantucket, MA,  Jan 12, 2011

This is a great book. While not literally encompassing all possible things one might like to cook, it certainly offers an extensive collection of recipes with nearly endless variations on most. It takes the mystery and perhaps some of the anxiety out of cooking by providing thorough explanations from procedure to choosing ingredients. There are nealy endless illustrations on proper technique and numerous time-saving grids for referencing variations on recipes that are readily modified. As an industry professional, I find it an invaluable resource and HIGHLY recommend it.

SIMPLY THE BEST!
from Pittsburgh, PA,  Dec 28, 2010

I have many, many cookbooks that I have collected over the years. I purchased this one as I found myself always looking through it at a friend's house. I must say it is one of the best cookbooks in my collection. It is straightforward, easy to understand, and offers up some incredibly easy and tasty recipes. Don't hesitate to purchase this; you won't regret it!

Great Book
from Menlo, Iowa,  Aug 29, 2010

This book is fantastic for learning and honing your skills. The shipping however, took forever... almost 2 weeks to get the book. I expect people to ship within two days, but that did not happen.

I found that the recepies were very boring and could find like how to cook Sloppy joes, Tacos salad. So it does not show you how to cook everything. I feel the Joy of Cooking is much better

This is a concise guide that summerizes all the best tips from other cooks and the author himself. Think of it as an updated version of "the Joy of Cooking". If you are a fan of Altan Brown you'll appreciate the information here because, in each section, he explains the basic science and techniques before listing the recipes just like AB would, which allows you to understand the recipes and modify it to your taste. This book has a good collection of both traditional and "exotoc" recipes to try. A great all-round reference book for the kitchen.

First, let me say this is not the first cookbook I have purchased. However, upon opening the cookbook and looking it over I found myself reading it from page to page. More remarkedly, my wife, who doesn't like to cook, I have found several times in a chair reading this cookbook. I've even seen my daughter lying on the floor reading it! I bought this cookbook to give my family and I some ideas for new dishes to cook. It has done that and much more. I highly recommend this book!
