    • Good Advice for Graduates

This book disguises great advice for graduates as a lovely story about caterpillars becoming butterflies. After one of the caterpillars spends much of his life scrambling to the top of the "caterpillar pillar," he realizes that all he's gained by getting there is only that . . . getting there. And, he soon learns that getting there is the easy part -- now he has to fight to stay there. This is a beautiful allegory with a beautiful moral: When you become yourself, you become most beautiful.

    • a story of transformation

This lovely caterpillar story might make you think it is a kid's book, which it could be, but it is really more for world-weary adults. I think we can all relate to climbing the caterpillar pillar to nowhere. The contrast of the butterflies and the caterpillars will have you wishing to fly, too. I love the message of transformation. Great book for friends who are down or kids who would like to hear more than a fairy tale. Warning: three caterpillars fall off the pillar and die, in case the concept of death is one you would want to stay away from for a very young child.
