Luanne Rice is one of my favorite authors. She writes so well about families and the complex interactions of their members. She describes the locales of her novels in great detail - mostly along the New England coastline - so that the reader can almost "see" the coast, the towns, the homes, and the colorful characters who inhabit them. In this particular novel the protagonist is a young woman who is devastated by a tragic accident and the break-up of her marriage. She returns to her childhood home, seeking love and security from her family, only to barely escape from a fire in her old family home. This was a satisfying, enjoyable story.
