This is an exceptionally insightful and well written memoir by one of the finest leaders of the last 50 years.

Wonderful little book, filled with pictures of admiralty and builder's models. A real thrill for ship modlers.

  • My niece loves this book!

I bought this for my niece's birthday. She turned eleven. She loves to read and loves animals. My sister read it first to make sure it kept with her parenting expectations. She was pleased with the story line and it kept her 43 year old attention. This is a very conservative family (which made me a tad nervous since I didn't read it myself). However, it was a hit!

Excellent writing and a true look at the history and times of Joseph Ith's final days. Highly educational, an outsider's view that is enlightening.

  • Great Taos Bank Robbery & Other True Stories

    Aug 4, 2014

Tony Hillerman doesn't fail to deliver in these absolutely true bits of New Mexico folklore, gathered during his tenure as a newspaperman in Albuquerque. Absolutely fascinating if you're from - or interested in - NM culture. Fortunately it has been reprinted; with a foreward by Hillerman's daughter. New photos have been added. While I haven't seen a copy of the original, if you like Hillerman's writing in general you'd get a kick out of this. True stories that somehow - don't sound too true, but obviously are. Names have been changed to protect certain parties - and some of them wanted their real names in there! Did you know that New Mexico has rare outbreaks of bubonic plague? There are brief stories of just a page or more, and longer ones about particular incidents. A fun, fun, historical read.
