I am new to this raw food thing although I have felt that I ate pretty healthy before. I have read through several other raw food un cook books. Many are good and have exceptional recipes that take a lot of time. This book is great because it focuses on the simple raw food life style....NO Sprouting or Dehydrating! Just simple recipes. It also goes into food combining which other raw cook books don't. Really, any improvement in the quality of food that you eat is good, but why not tweak it a little and get the extra added punch for your digestion. I checked this book out of the library (ebook) and now want a copy to sit on my shelf. I realize that I will come back to it more than other raw cook books.

Like most, I first read Skinny "B" and couldn't wait to get my hands on this cookbook! It's great! Especially for those who are new in the Vegetarian/Vegan world. I've read a few nasty reviews that stated it is great for people who don't know how to substitute in recipes but I beg to differ! For those who are new to the "Veg" world, tofu can be intimidating! As well as tahini, nutritional yeast, egg replacement, etc.! This book makes trying new (healthy) things fun! I love to cook and by using their recipes you learn to become fearless with tofu among other "Veg" foods! It's a definite MUST for newbies and for those who have been around the "V" world for awhile...maybe you'll learn something fun and new to try! To the authors...thank you for making healthy diet changes so incredibly easy for me! You gave me the teeny-tiny push I needed to go Vegan! xoxo!

Be careful. If you read this book, you'll be converted to a vegetarian or a strict vegan. If you read this book, you'll be convinced cancer and heart disease are caused by meat and fish. If you read this book, you will see, learn, and understand that vegetables, whole grains, and beans are real foods, nothing less and nothing else, and certainly nothing more. An expert, we are told, spent more than 30 years studying the issue, and the expert draws his conclusions in a manner such that any 8th grader can understand them and the results. If you read this book, you will be challenged to become healthier by making the decision to follow Messrs. Campbell's simple suggestion to avoid all meat, dairy, and fish. After one year of following Messrs. Campbell's simple suggestions, I became doubtful that my results were proof that their suggestions work or were, in fact, true. For one, as a result of following the program for one full year, I did not feel overwhelmingly better or healthier as other reviewers have attested to on this site. In fact, I often felt less energetic than I used to feel before starting the program. Secondly, I did not lose any weight at all (though I did not gain any either) as a consequence of becoming vegan. Thirdly, I could not say that I had ever felt fully satisifed by eating a strictly vegan meal. Perhaps my cooking techniques required greater refinement. Recently an anti-aging physician interpreted my recent blood lab tests as showing that I am at risk for a pre-diabetic condition as well as for heart disease, despite my attempts to "go vegan" a full year. Was my doctor overly cautious and too fastidious in his assessment? Or was he assessing the facts correctly? How well can you trust any expert who claims to know? How can a layperson adequately second-guess experts in a scientific or medical field and reassess all their conclusions based on your own plodding, non-scientific efforts to seek out the real facts? As I wrote at the start of this review, "Be careful." Is it really true that all meat-eating leads to cancer? Is it really true that all vegans are healthy and lean? There is reason to believe that the China Study doesn't present all the scientific evidence available, that the information is dumbed-down and biased in favor of veganism. Experiment and evaluate the results for yourself. Initially I wanted to give the book a five-star rating because the authors make a very good and strong case for the value of eating more beans and vegetables and the information is presented in a clean, easy manner, but while I think eating more vegetables ought to be on everybody's list of things to do, and while the authors make the book easy to read and simple to follow, the China Study itself isn't written such that all the nitty-gritty scientific proof is laid out for the reader to follow and digest that veganisn is the only way to diet and to live; one has to trust the authors' ability to condense and summarize huge amounts of scientific data, and there lies the rub: there is doubt on that score enough to give the serious reader pause. My current primary physician says you don't need to climb the Mount Everest of Nutrition (meaning going strictly vegan) to be healthy. I'm following his advice now.

Cancer and its causes are becoming more known each day. Many of the substances and the stress that promotes cancer growth is likely unavoidable; one's lifestyle and the permeation of toxic products and by-products exists in just about everything, including the air we all need to breathe. If you are interested in preventive maintenance of your health, you've got to read about the benefits and use of Turmeric about which the basis of its essential healing and cancer fighting properties are curcuminoids. Turmeric is probably in your kitchen cabinet right now; its a common spice. Used widely in meditereanian and middle eastern/asian cooking, where cancer occurs in much lower numbers than other parts of the world, researchers are finding that the use of turmeric is closely associated with health benefits that are anti-cancer. Read it for yourself and then pass it on to someone you love-- and buy some turmeric to add to your food (or capsules) and get started: what have you got to lose?

Simple. Written for lay people. Yet still cooks great food. I recommend it for anyone trying to reduce their gluten in-take.

My dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes and was at a loss at how and what to cook. He's not really a cook anyway and was worried he would have to go out and buy a bunch of strange and expensive ingredients. I found this book and had it shipped to him, and he was thrilled. So thrilled in fact, that I ordered my own copy, which I just got yesterday. I can see why he liked it. It has many easy and good recipes, with helpful tips on food preparation for diabetics. Since I am high risk for diabetes myself, I plan on also using this cookbook as often as I can!

I'm not much of a cook and if you are this is a good book for you. I'd have to spend a lot to buy all the supplies/seasons etc. needed for most of these food items and with my budget I can't afford to eat healthy apparently..but again I can do some of them and for sure will try them. All looked great!!
