The Dursleys were so mean that hideous that summer that all Harry Potter wanted was to get back to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he's packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike.
And strike it does. For in Harry's second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockheart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls' bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley's younger sister, Ginny.
But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone--or something--starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects...Harry Potter himself?
J.K. Rowling was a struggling single mother when she wrote the beginnings of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on scraps of paper at a local cafe. But her efforts were soon rewarded with an award from the Scottish Arts Council enabling her to finish the novel. She has since won numerous awards including the ABBY Award (American Booksellers Award) 1999.
Jim Dale's wonderful voice makes this story so nice to listen to on audio cd. Because my favorite books in the series are #1, #6 and #7, I don't often pick up book #2. This has been such a pleasure to listen to when I'm in the car running errands, in my kitchen cooking dinner, or around my home, doing housework. Because of this format, I have revisited details in this book that have played bigger roles in the rest of the series. I've also been reminded how much I love this book, even if it's not my #1 favorite.
I listned to this in one day straight through. The man who was reading story held my attention and it was just really good. I got this for my Grandchildren to listen to in the car on a trip we are going on and I thought I should listen to it first...it was really good. I think they will enjoy it, but I am going to keep it for myself. I never watched the movies, but thats next on my list. I ordered it and it was at my house in the same week. Great service.
My daughter loves this, having already read it and listened to the audio in the library numerous times, she was thrilled to own it and have it available any time she wants it. I enjoy listening too.
The CD was in perfect shape and was just as described by the seller. I highly recommend this alternative to reading a book. When you are in your car for long periods, It makes the time just fly by!!
I read the books with my kids, who love them (I love them too!) We also enjoy listening to them in the car. This is a wonderful story and the book is MUCH better than the movie. The charming way the book is written keeps my whole family entertained. The man who reads the story has a different voice for each of the character and does a brilliant job. This is a wonderful way to enjoy a Harry Potter story.
