In 2002, Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot suffered life-threatening injuries that put him out of commission for a while. Ever the trooper, he gathered voice-and-guitar tracks he`d recorded just before his illness and oversaw their production from his sickbed. Though the band was overdubbed long after Lightfoot`s singing, HARMONY congeals surprisingly well. Whether out of necessity or choice, the production is considerably leaner than that of Lightfoot`s many `70s hits, focusing around acoustic guitar and colored mainly by modest keyboard and electric guitar tracks that sublimate themselves to the songs` purpose. The album is filled out by a couple of live tracks of the same vintage, displaying Lightfoot`s faultless knack for capturing an audience. Mellow, thoughtful, and tasteful, HARMONY holds up Lightfoot`s legacy in admirable fashion.
