A zoo keeper makes his late-night rounds of the zoo, saying good night to all the animals before he heads for home. However, unbeknownst to him, the gorilla has stolen his keys and is secretly freeing all the animals from the cages. The sleepy zoo keeper doesn`t realize that all the animals have followed him home, but luckily his wife is aware of the situation and knows just how to get all the animals back into their proper places--or does she? This nearly wordless story is illustrated with colorful drawings.

I'm an infant toddler teacher and have been using this book in the classroom for years. It's a huge hit with the pre-verbal set. Part of the charm is in the wordless story, there is so much for a child to discover. The mouse and the banana on each page. The color of each cage matches the color of its key (ok, maybe only I notice that). The animals all have toy versions of themselves. The biggest hit is when the wife's eyes pop open on the dark page, we have to go back and forth between the sleepy eyes as she turns off the light and the popped open eyes in the dark after she gets a chorus of 'good nights' she wasn't expecting. It's a joke most 20-month-olds get and relish.
Do not buy this book. It is too small and a disappointment. I have seen the large book and it's sooo much nicer.....do NOT spend this kind of money for a small book.....I am sending mine back today...

I have seen nothing but rave reviews for this book, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. This book has very few words (not enough in my opinion) and very little story. The illustrations are cute, but that is all it has going for it. Get Goodnight Moon instead!

Good Night, Gorilla has great pictures and little text making it a great book for young children. The pictures are colorful and full of detail. It also teaches children to recognize different animals that can be found in the zoo. We read this story almost daily.
