Cuddle up at bedtime end enjoy this brilliant story about a zoo keeper that makes his nightly rounds and says goodbye to all of the animals before heading home at night. A sneaky gorilla manages to grasp the zoo keeper's keys as he is making his rounds and secretly frees all of the other animals from their cages. The sleepy zoo keeper goes home unaware that the zoo animals are following him. The animals manage to sneak into the zoo keeper's room unseen until the courageous little gorilla snuggles up beside the zoo keeper's wife as she turns out the light. Fortunately his wife knows just how to get all of the animals back into their appropriate places -- or does she?

I'm an infant toddler teacher and have been using this book in the classroom for years. It's a huge hit with the pre-verbal set. Part of the charm is in the wordless story, there is so much for a child to discover. The mouse and the banana on each page. The color of each cage matches the color of its key (ok, maybe only I notice that). The animals all have toy versions of themselves. The biggest hit is when the wife's eyes pop open on the dark page, we have to go back and forth between the sleepy eyes as she turns off the light and the popped open eyes in the dark after she gets a chorus of 'good nights' she wasn't expecting. It's a joke most 20-month-olds get and relish.
Do not buy this book. It is too small and a disappointment. I have seen the large book and it's sooo much nicer.....do NOT spend this kind of money for a small book.....I am sending mine back today...
I have seen nothing but rave reviews for this book, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. This book has very few words (not enough in my opinion) and very little story. The illustrations are cute, but that is all it has going for it. Get Goodnight Moon instead!
Good Night, Gorilla has great pictures and little text making it a great book for young children. The pictures are colorful and full of detail. It also teaches children to recognize different animals that can be found in the zoo. We read this story almost daily.
