As you listen to Gerry Mulligan's smallish big band that followed the Concert Jazz Band (some of these are available in Verve reissues and recommended), you can picture the entire Night Lights album playing at a 1960's playboy 's pad as he entertains the ladies. The music can certainly be used as hip background music, but should be studied for the great musicianship as well. My relatively rare Philips label original vinyl copy can now be retired for the modest cost of a new CD.
