Finding this particular book, on this exact site right this minute was a symbol of progression that I'm still blown away by. Its meaning has yet to entirely enfold for me.

  • Loving insights into AS/NT relationships

    May 20, 2010

    zeichner  from Minneapolis, MN, Rating:5.0

This is a very loving examination of the challenges faced by couples, where one partner has Asperger's Syndrome & the other is Neuro-Typical. The author (who is NT, married to an Aspie) uses the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for AS to describe how each Aspie trait might appear to the NT partner. She then gives helpful examples of how each partner can use the awareness of these traits to strengthen their relationship. As an Aspie, I found this book to be enlightening, by giving me some insight as to how a partner might perceive the personality characteristics and/or impairments of someone with AS.

Very accurate as far as human behavior goes.......FYI, I'm still reading it, but so far, I'd recommend it......it reminds me of deviant behavior I read about in I believe, :Constructions of Deviance".....there's an section on the NY subway murder of the late 80's or very early 90's (Bernhard Goetz ) the young men who committed the crime stated that they did it because he looked like someone who was basically a wimp......what it all comes together as is, IT'S FUN TO BE BAD.......

This book offered many examples of people overcoming/altering some challenging conditions in their lives. It illuminates the amazing plasticity of our brains and minds (you'll find out the differences) and provides hope for people suffering from a wide range of problems. From stroke recovery to issues with addiction, this book provides a positive approach to change.
