Football is one of the most popular sports in America, but in Texas it?s closer to religion. The first season of this award-winning show uses the game as focal point for each episode?s structure, but the gridiron often takes the backseat to the more pressing issues of life in Middle America. The real star of the show is the fictional town of Dillon, a place that represents the struggle of hard-working-yet-flawed human beings getting through another year of life in a small community. The town?s team, the Panthers, may be headed for the top, but can their coach (EARLY EDITION`s Kyle Chandler) and the players keep it together as the pressure of their personal lives threatens to knock them down?

Friday Night Lights--Try it, you'll love it

logansmum from Atlanta GA, Apr 2, 2008

I recently discovered Friday Night Lights online during the writers strike. I HATE reality TV and we don't have cable, so my TV viewing had plumeted. I fell in LOVE with FNL and ordered the first seaon on DVD so I could get my husband to watch it. For any women who don't like sports, the football is a sideline story. It is such a great depiction of small-town life in the south (although I grew up in Georgia, not Texas, there are many similarities). The relationship between the coach and his wife and their daughter is realistic and tender and honest. It IS the best thing on TV that you (and most of America) aren't watching. The second season ended early with a mediocre episode because of the writers strike. Apparently it has been picked up for a 3rd season with some sort of Hail Mary deal with Direct TV. I can't wait. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Best Show on TV

Wow, I'm hooked. I couldn't stop watching. Well acted, excellent story lines about kids, families and everyday life. Enough football to keep my husband interested but not nearly as much as I worried there might be. Go Panthers!

FNL Season One

accessorybarbie from Illinois, Oct 27, 2007

I hadn't watched FNL at all the first season but I became interested when I read all of the great reviews. Football is not really my thing but this show is about so much more than football. It is truly amazing and I was hooked by the fourth episode. I would recommend these dvd's to anyone who wants to watch a show about "real" people who touch you with how they live their ordinary lives.
