The first Firestarter is much better than the second, but for a two-disk set, the price can¿t be beat. The original stars a young Drew Barrymore, and she does an excellent job. Her parents met while volunteering to be possible test subjects for ¿Lot 6.¿ They would either get the chemical cocktail or a water placebo. They both get the cocktails and it ends up giving them mental powers. They end up marrying and have a little girl, Charlene, ¿Charlie,¿ played by Barrymore, who is, blessed?, cursed?, with the ability to start fires with her mind. Of course, the institute that held this experiment wants to keep track of them, and ultimately, decide that they want to study Barrymore. David Keith plays her father, Andy McGee, who takes off with her to keep them free. Martin Sheen and George C Scott play characters that work for ¿The Shop,¿ who have men pursuing Charlie and Andy because they want to test Charlie¿s ability. How far can she go? Is she too dangerous? Pretty decent adaptation of Stephen King¿s book. Firestarter 2 falls short of the first one, but probably would have been better if it hadn¿t tried to continue on with the story of Charlie. Had the plot been a little different, to make it a stand alone sequel to the first movie, it would have been a stronger story. As it is, if you are a big fan of the first one, you¿ll be disappointed with the second. However, for first time viewers, they might enjoy the story as told by this flick. Age appropriate per MPAA rating.
