Debbie Macomber is an excellent author that engages her readers and captures their hearts with each and every story she writes. I love every one of the 8 books I've read from her collection so far and can't wait to buy my next set of DM books! Also, the books were delivered in excellent shape.

  • Compelling O'hara Novel

    Jul 17, 2014

Great John O'Hara novel set in the fictional town of Gibbsville, PA dissects the social fabric of the town's upper crust, their ambitions, obsessions, and weaknesses. The story's main character is attorney Joe Chapin and revolves around his life, family, friends, marriage, and political ambitions. There are plenty of other characters, like the town political fixer, that make this a compelling read. Although set mostly in 1945 (written about 1955), the striving for relevance and prestige by some of the characters seems contemporary. My only complaint is how sometimes O'Hara will wander off the main story for several pages, writing about a minor character who disappears and never returns. Nice introduction to the 2014 paperback version by Jonathan Dee. The book was filmed in the late 1950s with Gary Cooper starring as the main character. I've only been able to find it as a poor quality YouTube upload. Perhaps someday a new version of this book will be filmed and released.
