Faron Young was able to smooth out the edges of Hank Williams` honky tonk style just enough to take it uptown a bit, and the pop flourishes he added gave him a streak of big hits in the `50s, including "If You Ain`t Lovin`," "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young," "Sweet Dreams," "Alone with You," and "Country Girl," all of which are included in this brief but succinct set of his early A-sides. Also here is the version of Willie Nelson`s "Hello Walls" that Young took to the top of the charts in 1961. Young continued to have minor hits into the `80s, but the heart and soul of his legacy, the barest essentials of it, are here. ~ Steve Leggett
