Rhonda Atkinson, Ph.D., curriculum and instruction, with her background in reading and psychology, brings to her work an extensive understanding of how people learn. She has applied this knowledge to a variety of content areas and learner needs, and is an expert in instructional design.
After earning her doctorate from Louisiana State University, Dr. Atkinson went on to become a faculty member and administrator in post-secondary education programs in Louisiana, Missouri, and Florida. Along the way, she has created courses and workshops to meet different content and learner needs in online, face-to-face, and hybrid formats.
She has also developed educational materials for Northrop Grumman, the Institute for Healthcare Advancement, Novartis, the Public Broadcasting Corporation, the Louisiana Office of Elder Affairs, the Louisiana Office of Nutrition Education, and the Louisiana Department of Education. Dr. Atkinson is the co-author of seven college textbooksmany of them in multiple editionsin reading and learning strategies. She currently serves as a professor of education at Valencia College, Orlando, Florida, where she teaches undergraduate education courses in student success and technology as well as post-graduate certification courses in education.
Nancy Ann Tattner, Ph.D., has been an educator for the past 28 years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Montreal at Loyola College in 1969. In 1973 she earned her Diploma in Education from McGill University. While in Montreal, she taught sixth grade for 5 years and second grade for one year. Through 1976 to 1986, she was a stay-at-home mother, raising her two children. She re-entered the teaching profession in 1986 after relocating to Daytona Beach, Florida. In Daytona she taught kindergarten, 4th grade and 5th grade.
When asked to be interim principal of a private K-8 school, she returned to school to earn a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University (MS 1995). She then continued her studies to pursue a doctorate and graduated in December of 1998 from the University of Central Florida.
Under her leadership as principal, her school was named a Blue Ribbon School in 2006. Today, as an associate professor at Daytona State College, her mission is to prepare future teachers with the knowledge and skills to be effective, passionate teachers of tomorrow.
Betty Nielsen Green, Ph.D., was educated in Europe and in the United States. She holds degrees from University of Central Florida (B.A. 1985- Ed.D. 1994) and an M.S. in Education and TESOL from NOVA Southeastern University. Currently she works at Daytona State College where she teaches the TESOL anchor courses in an ESOL and Reading infused Education Program.
Prior to working at the college she was the Supervisor of Foreign Languages for 17 years at the Volusia County School District. Dr. Green is a linguist and speaks several languages fluently and dabbles in many more.
