Well written and heavily documented analysis of why one should switch to a diet that is 90% vegetables and fruit. It convinced me, and my results have been impressive. Although I already was fit and slim for my 66 years, my rising blook pressure concerned me that I might soon have to take serious meds. WIthin 3-4 months of adopting this diet, my blood pressure is usually down 20 points and I lost abouta 12 pounds that I didn't need. I am enjoying eating this way and since I fill up on good veggies, I don't really miss the animal proteins and fat.Read More

I originally bought this book for myself and have now bought it for many family and friends. It goes really well with the cookbook, "Power Foods" although the cookbook is not as hard core as the Fuhrman diet- I do modify the recipes a bit to keep them really healthy. Hopefully you will read it and change your life for the better.Read More
The main idea in this diet plan is to eat two huge salads (one head of lettuce per day) packed with vegetables, beans and fruit, and avoiding all dairy, meat and eggs. I found that when I eliminated animal protein I was hungry all day long and I just did not feel satisfied on vegetables and fruit. Even if you are unable to follow this strict regimen, at least increasing your fruit and vegetable intake on a daily basis goes a long way in improving your overall health. Plus, there are some pretty good healthful recipes included.Read More
If everyone in the world could read this book, "and follow most of its advice", we all would have very different eating habits, the world would have a lot less diseases, and the health care industry would be "a lot smaller"!!!! DaveRead More
After seeing Dr. Fuhrman on PBS and getting the book at the library I wanted my own copy. If you are serious about a lifestyle change this could be it. But I do mean serious, I thought I was a healthy eater and after following the suggestions in this book I noticed an immediate change, I didn't have much to lose but several pounds just fell off and I feel terrific. Yes it does take some work and it's not easy but if you can do the first six weeks like to book says I think you will see an amazing change. It's definately a lifestyle change but I have to say in my case it's been great.Read More
Loved the book. A common sense approach to eating with insight into the poor diet most of us adopted from outdated US FDA recommendations. After reading this book, I've made many changes to my family's diet including stocking the house with all kinds of fruits, vegtables and nuts and continue to decrease our meat and dairy consumption. Our goal is to reduce disease and premature aging. Full of good information.Read More

Dietary Supplements Buying Guide
Many people are turning to dietary supplements to support a healthy body and balanced life. Dietary supplements are specially designed for the purpose of supplying the body with specific nutrients that it is not receiving through your everyday diet. Nutrients are the substances the body needs to function -- about 45 different elements and compounds according to some professionals -- including vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, amino acids and other chemicals. Through research, scientists have learned what these nutrients are, how many of them work and how to synthesize them or extract them from plants, making them more widely available through dietary supplements to support public health.

It's no secret that there is a strong correlation between your diet and your health. Some foods pack a nutritious punch, offering energy, immunity, and protection against disease. Best Vitamins for Clear Skin
If you have struggled with acne and blemishes, then you may have tried a variety of things with hopes of getting clear skin. While creams and ointments have their benefits, sometimes you have to start from the inside to get the beauty results you desire. There are many vitamins and supplements that help to promote clear skin and many ways to implement them into your skin care routine. Vitamin A. Vitamin A is vital to healthy, clear skin. By regulating the immune system, vitamin A helps the body fight infections. It also encourages the production of white blood cells, which are needed to destroy bacteria that causes acne. Vitamin A also plays a part in cell division, cell reproduction and bone growth. Vitamin A can easily be integrated into your diet. Foods rich in vitamin A include carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes and eggs. Vitamin A is also available in pill and cream forms. B Vitamins. B vitamins promote hydration and reduce inflammation. B vitamins are commonly used to increase blood circulation and encourage tissue repair, so they not only help to clear the skin, but they can also heal visible signs of previous break-outs and reduce the redness and inflammation of current blemishes. Get your B vitamins by consuming more potatoes, bananas, beans and tuna or purchase a B-complex vitamin supplement. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is well known and vital for good health. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which means it protects skin cells. This healthful vitamin helps fight infections and heal wounds, and it is also responsible for keeping ligaments, blood vessels and tissue healthy. Vitamin C is effective in pill and cream forms. Skin creams with vitamin C can increase collagen production and decrease the effects of sun exposure. Vitamin C in skin care products often appears in ingredients as L-ascorbic acid. Get more vitamin C in your diet with fruits and vegetables of all kinds. Vitamin E. Vitamin E works well alongside other vitamins in skin care products and is often paired with vitamin C. Vitamin E is a great oil-free hydration solution for acne-prone skin because it allows you to repair acne damage without encouraging more break-outs. Vitamin E is found in eggs and milk and can also be purchased in pill form. Fish oil. Fish oil is a fantastic supplement that is full of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help calm and prevent inflammation, which can reduce the size and redness of blemishes. Fish oil also helps to calm skin irritation which can occur when acne-fighting skin treatments are used. Fish oil supplements are available in pill form, and you can also get your omega-3 fatty acids by eating a diet rich in dark-green leafy vegetables, eggs, lean meats and whole grains. Flaxseeds are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids and can be purchased whole, ground and in oil form. FAQs About Banned Books
John Steinbeck, Toni Morrison, William Faulkner, Judy Blume, Maya Angelou, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and Mark Twain: What does each of these authors have in common? They have all written books that have been banned at one time or another. Combined, they have written some of the most influential novels in modern history and broken many records on bestseller lists. While a book can be banned for any number of reasons, banned books don't necessarily live up to their nefarious image. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions about banned books.
Best Vitamins for Women
Even if you maintain a healthy diet and weight and exercise regularly, you still might not feel as though you are getting the nutrients you need to enjoy and keep up with your lifestyle. Women have specific needs when it comes to vitamins, and those needs can change and increase during adolescence, pregnancy and menopause. Let us help you choose the best vitamins and supplements for your lifestyle. B vitamins. B vitamins are water-soluble, which means they are flushed out daily, so they need to be replenished frequently. B vitamins are abundant in a variety of foods, including meat, potatoes and bananas, but many women, particularly vegetarians, may not find themselves consuming a variety of B vitamin-rich foods. Water-soluble vitamins are also compromised when foods are over-processed or stale. B vitamins affect your immune system, metabolism and cell growth, and they have a big impact on your energy levels. Pregnant women should consume extra B vitamins, particularly vitamin B9, which is also known as folic acid. Find your B vitamins together in a B-complex supplement or in a quality multivitamin. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is also water-soluble, so it is important to get plenty each day. Vitamin C is famous for promoting a healthy immune system. In addition, vitamin C is necessary for absorbing iron into the blood. Because women are more likely to develop iron-deficiency anemia, vitamin C is especially important. Vitamin C supplements are available in a range of formulations, and you can also get plenty from food sources. In addition to oranges, vitamin C is abundant in oysters, broccoli and a wide variety of fruits. Vitamin D. Vitamin D contributes to the overall health of your body's organs, but its main job is to make sure that the calcium you work so hard to consume gets absorbed properly. Women are more likely to develop bone density complications, so calcium and vitamin D are extremely important for women of all ages. You can get your vitamin D easily from the sun, but if your lifestyle doesn't allow for much sun exposure, you may want to consider adding a vitamin D supplement to your routine. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means it is stored in the body's fat and organs. There is some potential for toxicity when fat-soluble vitamins are over-supplemented. A daily intake of 200 to 400 IU per day is recommended for children and adults, and most vitamin D supplements will provide 400 IU per dose. More than 400 IU per day is not recommended.
