Although this is a two-disc set, the 19 songs on THE VERY BEST OF LOVE could fit neatly onto a single disc. The title is a bit misleading; although it implies that this is a collection of some of the literally dozens of love songs Dolly Parton has written and recorded over the years, the song selection includes hits like "9 To 5" and "Take Me Back to the Country." Fine songs to be sure, but not really love songs. Those quibbles aside, THE VERY BEST OF LOVE is a solid sampling that covers the breadth of Dolly Parton`s RCA years, from early hits like "Jolene" through the heights of her pop-crossover days, to later singles that marked a return to her country roots. While it`s not the definitive Dolly Parton compilation, it`s a perfectly fine one.
