The Triple Feature series by Sony Legacy compiles three -- usually well-known -- catalog albums by big-name artists, assembles them in a slipcase box, and sells them at a budget price to consumers. While the reason may be simply a new package in order to clear shelves of excess inventory, this exercise also serves a purpose for collectors and fans filling in holes for a favorite artist. Dolly Parton`s edition in this series includes three of her first "renaissance" titles: 1989`s White Limozeen (sic), 1991`s Eagle When She Flies, and 1993`s Slow Dancing with the Moon. The first of these was produced by Ricky Skaggs, and included a real return to songwriting for Parton, who had been making slick production pop records for most of the `80s. It also featured superpickers such as B¿la Fleck and Jerry Douglas and revealed more of the bluegrass and roots styles of her best early records. Eagle When She Flies was Parton`s first platinum-selling album that wasn`t a hits compilation and placed her firmly in the country fold again, while Slow Dancing with the Moon featured a slew of high-profile guests including Tanya Tucker, Vince Gill, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Chet Atkins, Kathy Mattea, and Billy Ray Cyrus. Ironically, the simpler, sparer songs without the star power are what made the album appealing and put it over for country listeners. ~ Thom Jurek
