As musicians, the girls are below average at best. The banjo licks can be learned by anyone with one months training. The quality instrumentals are all provided by other band members. The fiddle instrumentals again could be played by any 1st year beginner. Vocals are where the girls shine, especially Natalie. She has an incredible voice. The sisters provide excellent harmony. The quality of the song writing is good in that it is obvious that they wrote this album with passion. Other than that, it is simple basic music, nothing ground breaking here, nothing innovative. Without the passionate lyrics and excellent vocals, this album would be barely mediocre.

I wouldn't have listened to Country Music unless my life depended on it, then the Dixie Chicks got reamed by the Right Wing. I felt for them, but hey--it still was not my type of music. Then came this CD, with three songs (the first three) that ring so true for all of us who don't follow the sheep through life. How lovely. How refreshing. And the film, Shut Up and Sing--made me a fan. Ran up and bought the CD immediately.
