This European set looks a whole lot like an update of Love & Life: The Very Best of Diana Ross. Like 2001`s Love & Life, The Greatest provides a two-disc overview of Diana Ross` career, both with and without the Supremes, and it`s freshened up with the inclusion of some inessential post-2001 material, like Ross` duet with Rod Stewart, taken from Stewart`s fourth Great American Songbook release. The Greatest contains the majority of Ross` biggest hits -- "Love Child," "Stop! In the Name of Love," "You Keep Me Hangin` On," "Love Hangover," "Upside Down," and "Endless Love" among them. There`s no perceptible rationale behind the track sequencing, as it hops from era to era, and some of the selections are questionable (some significant hits are neglected), but The Greatest functions as a rather satisfying sampler for casual fans. ~ Andy Kellman
