GREATEST MISSES is the perfect companion to GREATEST HITS (both released at the same time, separately). Whereas GREATEST HITS featured nothing but Devo`s best-known material, GREATEST MISSES explores tracks that may not be as recognizable upon first inspection, but after a few listens, you`ll discover many are just as strong. Besides, all of Devo`s early albums were consistent full-length listens, so the casual fan will be surprised at the quality of the selections that constitute GREATEST MISSES.
Of note to longtime Devo fans, GREATEST MISSES is the only U.S. release to include the early non-album b-side "Penetration In the Centrefold," and also includes rarely heard demo versions of their hits "Satisfaction" and "Jocko Homo," as well as the early oddities "Mechanical Man" and "Be Stiff." One of Devo`s all-time best tracks, "Mongoloid," is included here (strange that it wasn`t included on GREATEST HITS), as well as their early single/video "The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprize." Many other highlights abound, such as "Blockhead," "Speed Racer," "Clockout," "Timing X/Space Junk," "Too Much Paranoias," "Devo Corporate Anthem," and one of their eeriest tracks, "Shrivel-Up." With its fine combination of rarities, minor hits, and key album tracks, GREATEST MISSES does hit the mark.
