Defiance follows the true story of three brothers bonded together during war time to save thousands of Jewish people from death. However, only Hollywood can get away with making something like this and call it true. Facts don't always make for pure entertainment though, and Defiance is more geared towards pleasing that particular craving. If you've seen one war movie you've seen them all is a common sentiment amongst frequent movie watchers. However, if you're a fan of a genre, then you're a fan. Thus, if you like inspirational war based movies, chances are you will like Defiance. Perhaps one could say: if you liked The Last Samurai or Enemy At The Gates you may enjoy Defiance. This movie is entertaining for the sake of being entertaining. It leaves no doubt that the "facts" were tread all over during production, but for me as a viewer that did not matter. What matter was the adventure and story, both of which came on strong and entertaining. The only part of Defiance that came across as silly to me came later on when lead actor Daniel Craig was apparently being outfitted for a WW2 fashion show. Considering this movie is about a large group of people hiding and surviving in the woods, with Craig being one of them, it seemed odd that he would be so well dressed sometimes complete with fancy scarves. If you can let go of silly things like what i just mentioned and enjoy it as a genre film without griping over cliche, then Defiance is well worth checking out or even adding to your collection of movies. The acting is well done and the special features also offer you some insight into the truth behind the Hollywood tale.
