irenedutch1 from ATLANTA, ga, Rating:5.0Kai Bird has written with empathy and insight , in a fine, scholarly but easy readable language. I wished more historians would write like well informed journalists. Kai bird is a scholar, historian as well as an excellent journalist and provides insights into todays Middle East. He reaches back into history and gives us a taste of today in this very informational book written with love for humankind and the world. What a treasure! I bought several copies now that it is out in paperback so I can give them away as presents. I highly recommend thois book.

bittrman Rating:5.0While I make an effort to never start a book over 400 pages, due to my short attention span, I did not look at the lenght of this text until I was about 100 pages in. That being said, I thuroughly enjoyed this book, and the information and manner with which it was presented kept my interest.

texy2 from Texas, Rating:5.0In this important election year, each citizen needs to read this book. The authors cut to the chase and define the various ways our government computes expenses. Whether one agrees with the war in Iraq or not, the REAL cost is revealed for the present as well as the projected expenses, not to mention the greater cost in lives.
