Artist: Crimson Glory
Description:
"Cydonia" contains a hidden track which includes recorded police scanner communications that describe alleged U.F.O. sightings. Crimson Glory: Wade Black (vocals); Ben Jackson, Jon Drenning (guitar); Jeff Lords (bass); Steve Wacholz (drums). Additional personnel: David Van Landing, Paul Beach (background vocals). Recorded at Dreamland, Anna Maria, Florida. How often does a writer get to mention bands as diverse as King Diamond, Judas Priest, Queensrche, Rush, Iron Maiden, Page & Plant, Rob Zombie, Powerman 5000, and Alice Cooper in one sentence? Well, thank Crimson Glory (Wade Black, Jon Drenning, Ben Jackson, Jeff Lords, and Steve Wacholz) for that. They show influential nods to all of those groups in the music on this album. Of course, they have given listeners much more than that with Astronomica; they have given the world an album which both entertains and pushes the envelope of progressive metal. This one probably is not for everyone. The vocals (which somewhat call to mind King Diamond's style) will most likely send a few people running. Still, those who enjoy prog metal and have a good sense of adventure are in for a thrill ride here. It gets quite intriguing at times. For a quick example of this, jump directly to the title track. Its texture seems to combine the sounds of Page & Plant with a healthy does of both The X Files (yes, the television show) and Queensrche. Other highlights on the disc include "Edge of Forever," "Cydonia," and "Touch the Sun." ~ Gary Hill
