I bought this book for a morning prayer group during my weekday masses. Once you get the hang of using it, it is truly a beautiful prayerbook. The shipping was prompt and the price is less (INCLUDING shipping) than most retail bookstores!

I ordered this book as a requirement for a class I'm taking, but have discovered that the author's ability to remove his own personal beliefs and give a wonderful overview of various religions' beliefs and traditions is amazing. This writer helps us examine where our own personal beliefs originated, whether they are biblically based or if they were originally started from various biblical scholars throughout history. It causes the reader to delve into the beliefs you were raised with, and arrive at your own conclusions of what beliefs are still rock solid in you and which ones perhaps need some more searching out. More than anything, it gives the reader the wonderful opportunity to know exactly why we believe what we believe, and gives us the facts to back up those beliefs when witnessing to others. I highly recommend it.

A classic by C.S. Lewis. Well written and thoughtful. Written and read on British radio during the Blitz in London during WW II. Makes you think of issues still very much with us today.

The description should point out that this is a bible oriented, Christian book. Fine if that's you. Not fine if it's not.

In my practice as a Christian counselor, I have found this book to be an important and much needed resource in counseling my clients both individually and in groups. The problem of having and practicing healthy boundaries is often at the core of many client's problems. From using this book, my client's have voiced gratitude because they've been able to gain insight, growth and change for many of their individual, spiritual and relational problems. I use many books by Drs. Cloud and Townsend for my own professional growth and in my practice. For the Christian counselor, their integration of biblical and spiritual wisdom, principles and practices with sound behavioral principles and practices, provide appropriate interventions needed for the Chrisian client to achieve her or his counseling goals for healthy boundaries.

This single book in my oppinion is essential to understanding the christian faith. Charles Stanley does an outstanding job detailing every aspect of the christian life, from what we should beleive to how we should handle life's difficulties, it's all in here in honest Biblical truth that's easy to understand. This book makes it so simple to apply it to our daily lives. If you had ever had any questions about the christain lifestyle, the answers are in this book. Charles Stanley covers Doctrine, Relationships, Personal Growth, The Church, Daily living, The End Times and much more. What should we beleive about speaking in tongues? Baptism of the Holy Spirit? Eternal Security? the Antichrist? Prayer? Fasting? The Rapture? Loniless? Stress? Greif? There is so, so much to this book. I got it from the local library but there is too much to learn to keep checking it out again and again. It's not a read-it-once and put it down book. This is one you will be referring to again and again.

"How to Finish the Christian Life" by Donald and George Sweeting I’m not sure what I took to be the meaning of the title, but I was happily surprised that a book about aging, retirement, failing health and death (in its final chapters) wasn’t so dry as to turn me off. In fact, father and son team Donald and George Sweeting shared their wisdom about old age and finishing a successful Christian life in an accessible way. Donald and George are more than credible to talk about the spiritual and connotative side effects of growing old and maintaining a Christian testimony in “the second half.” With honesty and gentleness, the father-son team investigates topics like the American ideal for retirement, avoiding the sucking black hole of time-wasting, and putting every ounce of faith in Christ to walk through valleys even when the soul and perhaps physical body, too, are enervated. This little book contains verses tailored to the topic, examples from popular movies, and touching stories from the lives of such believers as D.L. Moody, John Calvin, Billy Graham, as well as anecdotes from the Sweetings’ own wealth of experience. There is much wisdom in this book about investing in heavenly pleasures, rather than earthly ones, debunking the myth that “old people” have to take it easy (proven false by a story of the dying Calvin being discovered in his bed, scribbling letters and research even though his health was flagging, so as not to be found idle when Christ came back), and coping with ailing health or financial problems. Even if you as the reader are not close to the 50+ second half of the race, being equipped in advance for the trials and joys ahead is never a bad idea! I received this book free from Moody Publishers as part of their Blogger Review Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Voddie Baucham delivers a serious look at a Christian father's reponsibility for helping his daughter choose the right husband. A husband who will lead with love like Christ leads His church. Voddie makes the point that Biblically, fathers should do MUCH more than they now do to aid their daughters in making the right choice. And if the right choice can't be found, there is the chapter titled "Can't find one? Build One!" to help a father mentor an "almost good enough" guy into a mature and Godly prospective husband. Most parents require far too little of the men who desire their daughters; this book is a great encouragement to take a stand for what is right and includes good advice on how to be helpful in finding it!

This is a superb, stimulating account of the historical backing from before the time of Jesus to the present. It is fascinating to read details that I had not heard before, especially about the Jewish people and Jesus himself. The author writes in fully accessible language. I highly recommend this book to everyone! (I read little chunks at a sitting, since the book is quite massive!)

This is an excellent book for any person who is interested in re-examining what being Christian is all about. It is far different from what the "Christian Right" is trying to promote. One gets a refreshing breath as Borg explains that Christianity is not a religion of requirements, but a religion of grace (unmerrited acceptance) We are fundamentally not "bad" people, but people who need not so much forgiveness (although that is an element), but an opportunity to mature and recognize that all is not right in our world, both individually and socially. We need then to set about finding "...what ails us and God's promise to us." A serious inquirer is bound to either like it and/or find much to think about.
