1-2-3 Magic (DVD)

This is a great DVD!!! It is very informative with a little bit of humor to parenting as well. I read the book 1-2-3 Magic and found the video to go right along with the book, yet added something extra to help with techniques for parenting. It is a great tool when used properly and offers a great way for parents to parent their children.

I was getting a preschool assessment for my son and happened to mention his problem with temper tantrums. The teacher recommended this video for us. I found it here much cheaper than other websites. My husband will rarely read though a whole book on child psych, so the format was perfect. We sat down and watched the whole thing together. My husband used to always say that he would never count to his child because it's demeaning and embarrassing around others. He got totally converted by this DVD. For me, it was really important to realize that it's okay not to treat a child like they are a small adult. For him it was really important to understand how the way we try to reason with our children and explain everything actually makes things worse. We were very lucky, our 3 and a half year old responded immediately to the technique, and what amazed me is that within literally days he seemed so much more secure, better behaved, and more affectionate. It was almost like he was asking us to just set some consistent limits with him so that he could go on and be the nice kid he is! I recommend this for anyone, whether you have good or bad behaved kids, it really really helped us a lot. If you get it, just keep watching it every few months for a refresher, because it's easy to not be consistent after a while.

I purchased this DVD for my grown children to help them decide on a discipline style for my very young grandchildren. Together with material on raising emotionally intelligent children I believe they will have great success. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. 1-2-3 Magic provides a no nonsense approach to discipline that avoids both preaching and spanking. The approach is quick enough for parents to be able to follow through and be consistent, and clear and fair enough for children to avoid feelings of unnecessary guilt while learning right from wrong. The presentation is clear as well as entertaining.

I can not rave enough about how wondeful this DVD is. It needs to be watched again and again. It is a simple system and has made a world of difference in my parenting and teaching. Priceless!

I try to watch this at least once every two weeks, so I can keep the tactics fresh in my head. It has helped so much. It really does work like magic! I have a two and a half year old. I and very happy with this purchase.
