I purchased this dictionary along with other materials as a backup to help me in my quest to learn Brazilian Portuguese. It is a very good source of helpful basic information for learning the language and for tips and tidbits geared towards the turist in Brazil. I includes: 1) a brief background info on Brazil & its language, 2)a pronunciation guide, 3) the alphabet, 4) brief grammar, 5) abbreviations, 6) a concise Portuguese/English/Portuguese Dictionary, 7) a Phrasebook - divided into sections by subject matter - each section includes basic information/tips on the subject, some phrases (not that many) and a list or related terms. The Subjects/Sections are titled: Basics, Things to Know Before Traveling to Brazil, Accomodation, Airport, Transportation, Money, Drinks, Eating Out, Shopping, Clothing, Shoes, Hairdresser/Barber, Drugstore, Medical Help, Dentist, Entertainment, Tourism in Brazil, & Safety. Lastly, there is a Quick Reference for: Colors, Numbers, Fractions, Months, Seasons, Days of Week, Hours, Time, Directions. Overall, I would say this Dictionary is a good guide if you plan to travel to Brazil in the near future; or want a good quick and basic reference. As a reference tool in learning the language, it is ok, but should not be you're ONLY reference book.
