This is the fifth of this series, I believe, and although some of Val McDermids standalone books are even better, this is by far my favorite of her different series. Tony Hill, a profiler with issues stemming from his abusive upbringing, and Carol Jordan, a Lancashire Detective Superintendent, who has made her way up through the British police hierarchy, make strides in their own personal relationship, which has been stymied by Tonys problems resulting from his mistreatment by an odious mother. Carol heads a special homicide force currently dealing with the murders of young adolescent boys in the Bradfield area. Saddled with a new boss who wants to cut costs by not hiring the more expensive but more talented Tony Hill as a profiler, Carol tries to solve the murders without asking Tony for free help. He is under contract to a city force about 100 miles south of Bradfield, working on the murder of a young girl. As Carol tries to work and also, on the side, help Tony with some of his issues surrounding the death of his always absent father, they finally find that the cases they are working on separately are converging. At the same time, Carols research into Tonys fathers life leads him into some posthumous acceptance of his father and some contemporary acceptance of himselfa hopeful sign that Tony and Carol may finally get together.

That Certain Summer A Novel by Irene Hannon Two sisters as different as night and day. Karen was the responsible wife, mother and daughter who tried to please everyone. Her marriage has fallen apart, her daughter is angry and wants her parents back together and her mother is mean, criticizing and controlling. Its no wonder she feels hurt, lonely and dowdy. Val has been MIA for years, shes running from her past and her criticizing mother. She is the beautiful talented daughter with a secret that has brought great guilt to her life. These two sisters come together to care for their sick mother for the summer. What they find is greater than either ever imagined for themselves. After being distant since childhood they develop a closeness as never before. I fell in love with them and their guys. I enjoyed watching the characters faith grew and developed as the story unfolded. The characters are well written brining hope, forgiveness, and romance for the sisters. I have loved Irene Hannon suspense books for awhile but this is my first contemporary romance I have read by her. I give it five stars and cant wait to read another by her. I want to give a high-five to the author and publisher for bringing compelling Christian books that are entertaining and give hope to the reader with stories of faith.
