An instant classic, I couldn't put this book down or get it out of my head, I couldn't stop reading it. MacDonald has created Pulitzer Prize literature, it ranks right up there with the best of the literary classics. I read it in two days. Elizabeth MacDonald also ranks right up there with David McCullough or Hilary Mantel as one of the greatest writers of our time. The writing is just so elegant and gorgeous, it reads like a Cheever novel wrapped in a work of history wrapped in a suspense novel. I've read Margery Kempe books, but this is the very first time ever Margery's story is put in its proper historical context, as an historical narrative, what exactly was going on around Margery in Catholic England right before Joan of Arc was executed, its darkest and its most little known period in history. The latter chapters read just as hilarious as Chaucer's Canterbury tales. Elizabeth's original, imaginative dialogue writing of Margery's constant fights with fellow pilgrims, and the bishops & clerics frustration and debates over what to do about Margery read just like the funniest movie scenes you ever saw. Just the thrilling, brilliantly written chapter alone on the heated, back and forth debate between Archbishop Thomas Arundel and his clerics on how to get rid of Lollard heretics, and the fact that Elizabeth imagined how they finally shockingly came to their decision, a death penalty that became England's first burning at the stake in its history, is Pulitzer material. Read how Elizabeth imagined the first martyr of the Protestant Reformation, William Sawtrey's homily citing Dismas and Jesus on the cross, or Margery's husband's letter to her, and you'll cry, I cried. This is better than a Phillipa Gregory novel. And her argument that 'Margery is the patron saint of gossip' is groundbreaking. Buy this book now, it's the best of the year. A book by one of the country's best and most gifted business journalists, who now ranks right up there as one of our greatest historical novelists. Kudos, Elizabeth, write more books!

The Sinners Garden by William Sirls There are some books that bring out the best and worst emotions in you. The Sinners Garden did just that. I felt the pain of the characters, I cried with them, felt the joy of forgiveness and the anger of injustice. This 5 star book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. It caused me to pause and reflect on occasions. The ending was a big surprise I never saw coming. The author William Sirlss strong faith is evident in his writings. Life in the small town of Bennings has taken an interesting turn. There is the elusive Summer Santa that is blessing the neediest of citizens. Miracles are being preformed, God is speaking and faith and forgiveness can be found. Andy and his mother have had a rough go of it. He feels his disfigurement is her fault. And her unwillingness to talk about the past leaves him with no other choice but to believe the lies he has been feed. God uses Andy with prophetic words and dreams. His Uncle Rip does everything he can to mentor and help Andy find his way. Through the miracle of a garden of wildflowers they find hope, faith, healing and the love of God. To quote Rip, God is who He says He is, He is going to do what He says He is going to do, and that we always have access to Him. We arent here for our own good. We are here to glorify God. I highly recommend this book. The author William Sirls did a great job of showing that God did not only perform miracles 2000 years ago but still does them even today. I found The Sinners Garden to be a compelling story of faith, forgiveness and hope. The Book Club Network Inc. provided me with this book in exchange for my honest review and I am so grateful for their, the authors and publishers generosity.

The Reason by William Sirls How can one family face adversity, tragedy, miracles, and heartbreak. And yet still have faith. They can because they .. only believe. Pastor James Lindy and wife Shirley have taken in Brooke and her young son Alex. They complete their small family along with their special needs son Charlie. A storm destroys and takes out the churchs cross but brings so much more to the community. As repairs are made they see miracles. Kenneth an ordinary carpenter is new to town but where he goes strange and wondrous things happen. Quote: He knew without a doubt that miracles took place all the time, and that everyone - without exception - was from the hand of God. There were big ones. There were small ones. There were those everyone noticed, like surviving life-threatening illness and accidents. Then there were many more that went unnoticed, like healthy children, something to eat, a roof , someone to love, birth and sometimes, even death. He wondered what the world would be like if people would just stop and take the time to look at everything they were given everyday of their lives and be thankful --to offer thanks and try to realize their personal miracles were coming from, and give credit where it was rightfully due. The author William Sirls is new to me. In fact this is his first book. I found his work to be a breath of fresh air, well written with compelling stories of faith. The authors strong faith shines in this great book. I am so looking forward to his next book The Sinners Garden. Author Carrie Daws once said, You know it's a good book when you are emotionally invested in it, and I promise you will be invested in this wonderful story. I give this book 5 stars and highly recommend it. High-five to the author William Sirls and publisher for bringing compelling Christian books that are entertaining and give hope to the reader with stories of faith. The Book Club Network Inc. provided me with this book in exchange for my honest review and I am so grateful for their, the authors and publishers generosity.

My 8 year old son loves this book! It was a fast favorite from the very first read. After several borrows from the library we had to add this book to our personal collection. Tavares does a great job of engaging young readers in Ted Williams story and baseball history.
